Atlético lose Godín for three weeks

Uruguayan international defender Diego Godín has been ruled out of Club Atlético de Madrid's home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Thursday after spraining ligaments in his left knee.

Diego Godín has been ruled out of Club Atlético de Madrid's Group B encounter with Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Thursday after spraining ligaments in his left knee.

The Uruguayan international defender, ever-present for Los Rojiblancos since joining from Villarreal CF during the summer, sustained the knock in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Real Zaragoza. He is expected to be on the sidelines for three weeks, ruling him out of the UEFA Europa League meeting with Leverkusen and leaving him doubtful for the meeting with Rosenborg BK on 21 October. The holders began their defence with defeat at Aris Thessaloniki FC.
