Heintze optimistic despite diagnosis

Doctors have warned PSV Eindhoven defender Jan Heintze that he could be "out for a long time".

Torn ligaments
Heintze limped off just ten minutes into Sunday's game when an opponent accidentally fell on his leg. The first diagnosis indicated that the 38-year-old had torn ligaments but further examinations will determine the extent of the injury. "The doctors have warned me that I could be out for a long time but I am much more optimistic myself", said Heintze.

UEFA CUP dates
The injury will definitely keep him out of Denmark's friendly against Saudi Arabia on 13 February in Riyadh and could hamper PSV's hopes of a serious title challenge in the second half of the season as the experienced defender has been one of the key performers in Eric Gerets's side this term. Heintze is also likely to miss both legs of PSV's UEFA Cup fourth-round meeting with Leeds United AFC, with the two legs scheduled to be played on the 21 and 28 February.
