Rangers FC have been shorn of midfielder Maurice Edu for their UEFA Champions League Group C match against Manchester United FC on 24 November.

The United States international picked up a knee injury during Wednesday's 3-0 defeat by Hibernian FC and was forced off two minutes before half-time. A subsequent scan has revealed no major damage, but Edu will nevertheless be forced to sit out the visit of United, who are top of the section, five points ahead of Rangers.

"Maurice's scan is OK, but he has a bit of soreness in the knee, so we're looking at him being out for maybe a couple of weeks," said manager Walter Smith. "Hopefully that will be it, but we'll miss him for a few games." Smith also has concerns over Kyle Lafferty (foot) and Kirk Broadfoot, who is set to see a specialist because of a persistent ankle injury.
