Captain Hofmann to miss Rapid's Group L closers

Midfielder Steffen Hofmann is destined to miss the conclusion of SK Rapid Wien's UEFA Europa League Group L campaign after the painful recurrence of a groin problem in training.

SK Rapid Wien captain Steffen Hofmann will miss his side's remaining two UEFA Europa League games, with the German midfielder yet to recover from the groin problems which have bedevilled his season.

The 30-year-old has not played since Rapid's 2-0 victory at PFC CSKA Sofia on Matchday 3, and though he attempted some running exercises in training on Tuesday, he had to abandon the session within a few minutes because he was in too much pain. Originally slated in to return for the final two Group L games, the Rapid playmaker is now expected to be out until 2011. Rapid lie third in the section ahead of their Matchday 5 meeting with FC Porto in Vienna on 2 December.
