PSV Eindhoven are expected to be without striker Jonathan Reis for the rest of this season due to injury.

The 21-year-old Brazilian collided with Roda JC goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń in PSV's 3-1 win on Sunday, and an MRI scan today confirmed he had torn cruciate knee ligaments. "The season is over for Jonathan Reis," a club statement read.

PSV doctor Tjaarda Weber added: "The positive is that the cartilage is not too damaged, and that he still is only 21, but this is a serious injury. Jonathan has a long road ahead of him. He will undergo surgery, after a rest period of 14 days in plaster. After that a long recovery period will follow with lots of difficulties on the way."

Reis joined PSV in 2007 from Clube Atlético Mineiro and has come of age this season, scoring eight goals in 11 Eredivisie matches for the leaders, including a hat-trick in the 10-0 defeat of Feyenoord, and one more in the UEFA Europa League. PSV won Group I to earn a round of 32 tie with LOSC Lille Métropole on 17 and 24 February.
