• The son of former Mexico striker Javier Hernández Gutiérrez, Hernández started his career with hometown club Guadalajara and scored on his debut − aged 18 − in a 4-0 win against Club Necaxa in September 2006 after coming on as a late substitute.

• Known as Chicharito (the little pea) because of his green eyes, he struck a total of 26 league goals in 62 games for Guadalajara, 21 of those coming in his final campaign before moving to Old Trafford.

• Made his senior international debuthaving featured at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada − on 30 September 2009 in a friendly against Colombia (1-2) and went on to score four goals in his next three appearances for the national team.

• Such form led United, who had been monitoring him for a while, to sign the two-footed striker in April 2010 on a three-year contract; enhanced his growing reputation with two goals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup against France (2-0) and Argentina (1-3).

• Adapted seamlessly to life in England with some important league goals in 2010/11, finishing the campaign with 20 in all competitions as United won a record 19th league title and reached the UEFA Champions League final.

• Scored ten league goals in each of the next two campaigns, the latter of which brought the forward a second Premier League title.
