Healy joins Rangers for rest of season

Northern Ireland striker David Healy said he was "absolutely thrilled to be here" after signing for Scottish Premier League titleholders Rangers FC until the end of the season.

Rangers FC have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Northern Ireland's all-time leading scorer David Healy until the end of the season.

Healy, who has 35 goals in 84 international appearances – including a record 13 during UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying – joins from Sunderland AFC having been on loan at Doncaster Rovers FC earlier this term. "I had a trial with Rangers when I was 14 but I couldn't sign back then as I was a little bit too young," said the 31-year-old. "It's been well documented that I am a Rangers fan; so are all my family. I'm absolutely thrilled to be here."

Healy watched his new side beat Motherwell FC 2-1 in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals on Sunday to book a showpiece meeting with rivals Celtic FC on 20 March. Walter Smith's charges will play Sporting Clube de Portugal in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, with the first leg at Ibrox on 17 February.
