CSKA Moskva beef up midfield with Cauņa

Latvia midfielder Aleksandrs Cauņa said he was happy to join "one of Europe's strongest teams" after agreeing a four-month loan at UEFA Europa League contenders PFC CSKA Moskva.

PFC CSKA Moskva have brought in Latvia midfielder Aleksandrs Cauņa on a four-month loan from Skonto FC.

Cauņa, 23, made the move after impressing at CSKA's training camp in Spain last month. "CSKA are one of the strongest teams in Europe," Cauņa, who has won 21 senior caps, told UEFA.com. "I am really happy to be at a team of a such a high level, and I hope to help my new club."

Regarded as one of Latvia's most talented players, he joined Skonto in 2006 and has scored 16 goals in 79 league games, helping the club to the title last season. He spent part of the 2008/09 campaign at Watford FC but returned to Skonto after only five appearances in England. CSKA meet PAOK FC in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 later this month.
