• A midfielder who operates mainly down the right flank, León was reared by Murcia, whom he helped win promotion to the Liga with seven goals in 31 appearances in 2006/07.

• Switched to Levante in summer 2007 but made just 12 starts as the Valencia-based team finished bottom of the Spanish top flight.

• Stayed in the Liga following a €300,000 move to Valladolid on 1 September 2008 and featured for Spain at the end of the season in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Sweden, scoring once in three outings (against Finland).

• On the move again later that summer, this time joining Getafe and registering a career-best eight league goals which helped earn the Madrid outfit a place in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.

• Changed clubs for the fourth successive year when he became José Mourinho's second signing as Madrid coach for a reported €10m in July 2010; no Liga starts before the winter break but did make three appearances in the UEFA Champions League, scoring the equaliser in a 2-2 draw with AC Milan which secured the Merengues' place in the last 16.
