• Ionov rose through the youth system at Zenit before breaking into the first team and making his Premier-Liga debut in 2008 as a late substitute against FC Spartak Moskva.

• Increased his number of first-team appearances in 2009 and 2010, winning the league title in the latter season.

• Made his European debut in the first match of Zenit's triumphant 2007/08 UEFA Cup campaign, a second qualifying round first leg against FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce (2-0); opened the scoring on each of his first two starts in Europe, against HNK Hajduk Split (3-2 away) and RSC Anderlecht (3-1 at home) in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League.

• A member of Russia's team in qualifying for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, he made his senior international debut in a friendly against Qatar (1-1) on 29 March 2011.
