• Bruno came through the youth set-up at Villarreal and represented the club's B team in 2004/05 and 2005/06.

• Made his debut for Villarreal on 15 July 2006 in a 2-1 home defeat by NK Maribor in a UEFA Intertoto Cup third round tie.

• Joined the first-team squad in 2007/08 but struggled to gain a regular place in Manuel Pellegrini's side over the next two seasons; made his first UEFA Champions League appearance and first start in the 2008/09 group games against Celtic FC.

• Ousted Sebastián Eguren from the midfield holding slot following Pellegrini's departure and made 31 Liga starts in 2009/10.

• Completed 100 Liga appearances for the Yellow Submarine in 2010/11 while still waiting to score his first goal; earned his first international cap in Spain's first match following their 2010 FIFA World Cup win – a friendly away to Mexico on 11 August 2010 (1-1).
