• Started the 2007 European U17 Championship final and the 2009 U19 equivalent, captaining England in the latter against hosts Ukraine.

• Became Middlesbrough No1 in 2010/11, playing 35 of 46 matches in England's second tier.

• Sent off 12 minutes into his U21 debut in a friendly against Germany in November 2010, having come on at half-time.
