• A graduate of the Barcelona academy, Botía made his only appearance for the club on the last day of 2008/09 − a 1-1 draw at RC Deportivo La Coruña − with the Liga title already secured.

• Loaned to Sporting Gijón for 2009/10 and quickly became a first choice centre-back at the Asturian outfit, playing 26 league games. He played 28 last term after joining on a permanent basis in June 2010.

• Started seven of Spain's eight group matches in 2011 U21 qualifying.
