• Nurtured at FC Barcelona, Ruiz switched allegiances when he joined neighbours Espanyol in 2006.

• Moved to Napoli in January 2011 for €6m, signing a four-and-a-half year deal; made six appearances in Serie A as the Partenopei finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

• Sent off in Spain's 2-1 friendly victory against finals hosts Denmark earlier this year.
