• His father, Markus Frei, coached Switzerland at the 2002 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and was boss at St Gallen in the late 1980s.

• Was Switzerland's three-goal leading scorer in qualifying, scoring against the Republic of Ireland (twice) and at home to Sweden in the play-off first leg.
