• Made his Under-21 debut just three weeks after featuring in his first game for Ukraine's U19 team, the opening match of the 2009 UEFA European U19 Championship finals in Donetsk against Slovenia (0-0).

• Played in every minute of the 2009 U19 finals in Ukraine where the hosts beat 2-0 England in the final.

• Gained his first experience of top-flight football with Zaporizhya at the age of 17 in April 2008; he and team-mate Taras Stepanenko joined Shakhtar on five-year contracts in May 2010.
