• Having made his initial breakthrough in the lower leagues with FC Poltava, central defender Matvyeyev moved up a grade when he joined their local rivals Vorskla.

• Made something of a breakthrough with 16 league appearances in the 2009/10 campaign but did not play at all in the following season after tearing cruciate ligaments in his left knee.

• Having first played for the U21s in 2009, he made five appearances in qualifying for the 2011 finals before his injury-enforced absence.
