Celtic extend with English duo

Celtic FC have renewed the contracts of key players Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson until June 2007.

Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic FC have secured the services of attack-minded English duo Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson until June 2007.

Happy to sign
Sutton, 31, joined Celtic from Chelsea FC in July 2000, two months before Thompson, who is a year younger, made the move north from Aston Villa FC. The pair's contracts were due to expire in summer 2005 but they have now both signed two-year extensions.

'Easy decision'
"The decision to extend my contract was an easy one," said Sutton, while Thompson added that "the agreement sets the seal on an amazing month" following on from his first international appearance in England's 1-0 friendly defeat by Sweden last week. Both players should figure in Celtic's UEFA Cup quarter-final tie against Villarreal CF, the first leg of which falls tomorrow night.
