FC Porto have unveiled Vítor Pereira as their new coach after André Villas-Boas tendered his resignation on Tuesday.
Pereira, 42, has signed a two-year deal having spent last season as Villas-Boas's assistant as Porto won the Portuguese league and cup double as well as the UEFA Europa League. "I would like to thank the president and the administration for the confidence they have shown in me," said the former SC Espinho and CD Santa Clara coach, whose team go straight into the UEFA Champions League group stage and play FC Barcelona for the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco on 26 August.
"The fans can rest assured that we will continue to work with competence. The club will continue winning as the team could improve and evolve." Villas-Boas leaves big shoes to fill having guided the Dragons to the treble in his first season in charge (they also won the Portuguese Super Cup), before triggering his €15m release clause on Monday – he had two years left on his contract.
