A comeback never looked to be on the cards for SC Vaslui, as FC Twente maintained their 2-0 first-leg advantage to take a place in Friday's UEFA Champions League play-off draw.

Steven Berghuis and Bryan Ruiz proved to be the dominant forces on the field for the Dutch side, as Twente's fluid passing kept the pressure on the home side. Although Răzvan Neagu, Raul Costin and Mike Temwanjera fashioned decent openings for Vaslui, Twente looked likelier scorers with Vytautas Černiauskas making fine saves to keep his side in the game either side of the break.

Marc Janko provided the first real threat to Černiauskas's goal after 25 minutes, getting past the Lithuanian goalkeeper but finding himself unable to slide a shot in on target with retreating defenders crowding him out. Neagu fired just wide five minutes from the break, but Vaslui then had another reprieve as Černiauskas pushed Luuk de Jong's shot wide in the closing seconds of the half.

The 19-year-old Berghuis drew another excellent block from the Vaslui No12 after the hour, and Janko then rattled the crossbar as a quick Twente break left Viorel Hizo's men chasing shadows. The Romanian side imposed themselves a little more thereafter, and Nikolay Mihaylov had to fend off a powerful Costin shot with 15 minutes to go. Zimbabwean forward Temwanjera's header then failed to find the target, but for all their willing, Vaslui could never really hurt their guests who must now turn their attentions to the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
