FCK bolster defence with Gamboa

Danish Super League champions FC København have signed Costa Rican international right-back Christian Gamboa on a four-year contract from Fredrikstad FK in Norway.

FC København have moved to soothe concerns over the right-back position by signing Costa Rican international Christian Gamboa on a four-year contract.

Zdeněk Pospěch's departure for Germany and an injury to his replacement, Johnny Thomsen, had left FCK coach short on the right side of defence. Gamboa, however, has arrived from Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK to plug that hole.

"I am really looking forward to joining Scandinavia's greatest club," he said. "I know the competition for positions is extremely keen there, but I am looking forward to fighting to get into the team. It is a large step for me, and I am looking forward to developing even further among the best players in Scandinavia."

FCK, who are second in the Danish top flight three games into their title defence, have a 1-0 lead against Shamrock Rovers FC ahead of the second leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie on Tuesday.
