Garrido giddy after Villarreal make light of OB

Juan Carlos Garrido reflected on a "special night" for Villarreal CF after the Liga club booked their place in the group stage for the third time with a convincing 3-0 home win against Odense BK.

Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido said his players are going to "revel" in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stage for the third time in the Yellow Submarine's history. Garrido singled out his side's nerve as the key to their 3-0 home win against Odense BK, the Danish club − and goalkeeper Stefan Wessels in particular − having frustrated the hosts for 50 minutes of the play-off second leg at El Madrigal until Giuseppe Rossi scored the first of his two goals.

Juan Carlos Garrido, Villarreal coach
It's a very special night because we've managed to achieve something that we all held out high hopes for. We demonstrated that we deserve to be there by putting in all that work over the past year. We are so happy and I would like to thank each and every one of my players for their efforts; they showed that they give their all as a team.

We knew there would be pressure but we all like playing in these types of games. We have players with a lot of experience and we demonstrated that we had the nerve, combined with a certain passion, to see us through. Those who get desperate and become over anxious in ties like these show a lack of professionalism. We are going to enjoy this.

We are full of ambition for the group stage but we don't want to set out a fixed objective for the tournament. We have reached the greatest [club] stage in world football and we have to revel in that. Whoever we face, we will do so filled with eagerness.

Giuseppe Rossi, Villarreal striker
We were the better team overall and the final result is a fair one. Despite rumours over the summer [surrounding my future] I am with Villarreal and I want to have a great season here facing great teams in the Champions League.

Anders Møller Christensen, OB captain
We did OK in the first half, but our second-half [performance] was not good enough. The difference compared to the first match was that Villarreal took their opportunities this time, while we didn't create enough when we were in possession. We knew this would be a tough game, where we would not be in possession a lot. We fought well but unfortunately it was not enough.

Chris Sørensen, OB midfielder
When we were down 2-0 we still had a chance, but when they scored the third goal it was all over. We were under pressure from the start and Villarreal had a couple of big opportunities early in the match. Maybe we could have done more, but we were up against a better team and we cannot object to their win.
