Emenike finalises Spartak switch

Emmanuel Emenike is looking forward to playing for the "most popular and decorated club in Russia" after FC Spartak Moskva sealed the striker's  €10m move from Fenerbahçe SK.

Nigeria forward Emmanuel Emenike has joined UEFA Europa League play-off contenders FC Spartak Moskva from Fenerbahçe SK for a fee believed to be in the region of €10m.

The clubs agreed the transfer two weeks ago but only now has it been announced that the 24-year-old has signed a "long-term contract" with Valeri Karpin's team. Emenike trained with his new team-mates today after passing a medical in the Russian capital.

The move is the second time in three months that the former FC Cape Town striker has changed clubs, with Emenike having arrived at Fenerbahçe in May from Kardemir Karabükspor, where he scored 30 goals in 51 league games. "Everybody has told me Spartak are a very serious team, the most popular and decorated club in Russia," Emenike told the Spartak website.

Emenike, who did not make an appearance for Fenerbahçe, scored his first international goal in a 4-1 victory against Argentina on 1 June. Sixth in the Russian Premier-Liga after 19 matches, Spartak visit Legia Warszawa in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off tie on Thursday.
