Dorinel Munteanu, Oţelul coach
We had a very poor first half, even though we started well and had a big opportunity in the fourth minute.
When you start a game 2-0 down in the 14th minute, at such a level and in such a competition, it is impossible to win. Again we made gifts to our opponents, especially the first two goals, which were decisive.
Afterwards we had some good moments, in which we played well, we scored two goals and could have even scored a third one, but once again, at such a level and in such a competition, only a few such moments are not enough. However, I am proud of the team which I lead.
Heiko Vogel, Basel coach
I was incredibly relieved when the game was over. It is inexplicable that we made life so hard for ourselves. Galaţi's goals came out of the blue and then suddenly we were having problems, the calm was gone and they were playing well, but luckily for us we improved again. I do not blame the team though. We won and still have a chance of reaching the round of 16, which is a good thing. Everything else, especially the final phase of the match, will be talked about later.
Despite having to win against Manchester United now, it is simply great that there will be this duel at St. Jakob-Park. That's what we have been working torwards. I congratulate my team. I am of course not completely pleased with today's game, but I have already said that. We had to finish the match better than we did with a 3-0 lead in our favour, we had to counterattack with more direction. But it was shown again why football is so spectacular – you never know what is going to happen. In the end this doesn't really matter any more, given the nice position we are in ahead of the last matchday. What remains is a wonderful feeling.
