Marseille turnaround delights Deschamps

Didier Deschamps was delighted to qualify after Olympique de Marseille "totally messed up" the first half, while Jürgen Klopp felt Borussia Dortmund could have won twice over.

Jürgen Klopp, Dortmund coach
We played really well and did all the right things. We were not rushed, which we perhaps could have been in our situation. But we ruined things for ourselves at the end of each half. Conceding the first goal was totally unnecessary, but we had time to repair it. The opponents were much stronger in second half and we played a lot worse. Marseille didn't really do much today, we helped them and we could have beaten them twice to be honest.

When you invest as much as we did over 90 minutes, you are bound to lose focus at times, but we made some really bad mistakes. It's fitting for our Champions League season; during our good spells we failed to take advantage as we should have and during the bad spells we got punished immediately. Our mistakes for their goals were absolutely unacceptable and it has nothing to do with lack of international experience, as these things would have also been punished in the Bundesliga. However, we will be back.

Dortmund faded in the second half and we were more aggressive to eventually achieve something exceptional. Such a comeback here is absolutely fabulous

Didier Deschamps, Marseille coach
We totally messed up our first half and might have conceded more. Loïc [Rémy]'s goal in [first-half] added time put us back on track. If we had gone in at the break 2-0 down it would have been very difficult, but at 2-1 it was still open. Another important goal was Mathieu Valbuena's. I endlessly repeat to the players that they must keep faith until the very end. Dortmund faded in the second half and we were more aggressive to eventually achieve something exceptional. Such a comeback here is absolutely fabulous. We failed to take our chance in the last game with Olympiacos, but now that is just a detail. We're happy we'll be back in 2012.
