Been vows to be bold after Genk appointment

Former Feyenoord trainer Mario Been described himself as "a coach who wants to attack and dominate opponents" after being appointed Frank Vercauteren's successor at KRC Genk.

Mario Been will lead KRC Genk into their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign after being named the Belgian champions' new coach.

The 47-year-old takes over from Pierre Denier and Hans Visser, who have been in caretaker charge since Frank Vercauteren left for United Arab Emirates outfit al-Jazira Club on 18 August. "I am a coach who wants to attack and dominate opponents," said former Feyenoord trainer Been. "Now I have to take a look at the players here. I do not have a good idea yet."

Genk also announced three new signings along with the unveiling of Been. Defenders Abel Masuero, who leaves Argentinian side Club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, and Mohamed Sarr, plus R. Standard de Liège forward Christian Benteke, have joined the club. Masuero and Benteke have penned four-year contracts, with Sarr agreeing a one-year deal.

"The squad cannot be big enough," Been added. "We want to make it as strong as possible, because we want to compete on three fronts: league, cup and Champions League. That demands a lot of labour. The Champions League is a beautiful stage on which to act. How many people get the chance to lead a team in it? I didn't need to think about my decision for long."

Genk begin their group stage campaign against Valencia CF on 13 September, with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Chelsea CF drawn alongside them in Group E.
