The Welsh move level on six points with the visitors, having played a game fewer, and earned sweet revenge after suffering a 3-1 defeat in Podgorica in September. Three second-half goals brought Montenegro back from behind but Wales had learned their lesson and there was no such comeback this time.

Lee Lucas and Jake Howells both went close for the home side early on before Ermin Seratlić missed the target for the visitors on the stroke of half-time. FC Steaua Bucureşti's Stefan Nikolić tested Christopher Maxwell before Alfei broke the deadlock.

Man of the match Thomas Bradshaw forced Pavle Velimirović into a save before Radivoje Golubović hit the woodwork and Stefan Mugoša fired off-target in the final minute as Wales held on. The young Dragons will hope for back-to-back wins as they take on unbeaten Czech Republic at the same ground on Tuesday.
