Georgia finish on winning note against Estonia

Georgia 2-1 Estonia
Lasha Parunashvili struck with seven minutes left to ensure Georgia concluded their Group 5 campaign with a win and leave Estonia rock-bottom.

Georgia rounded off their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory against Estonia.

The result means Georgia won an impressive three games in Group 5, though heavy defeats by the top two, Spain and Switzerland, mean they have been out of play-off contention for some time. They ended on a high, though, taking the lead in Tblisi just before the half-hour through Nika Dzalamidze. Though Albert Taar equalised soon after, substitute Lasha Parunashvili struck with seven minutes left to ensure a repeat of the result when these two teams met in Tallinn in June.

It was far from plain sailing for Alexandr Chivadze's team, however, with a host of newcomers struggling to assert themselves against Estonia until Dzalamidze's neat finish. Their lead lasted just seven minutes, Taar connecting with Marek Kaljumäe's cross to head past Giorgi Nadiradze.

That looked like it could be enough to earn Estonia only their second point of the campaign, but Parunashvili's brilliant free-kick from 30 metres was too good for visiting keeper Marko Meerits. As a result, Estonia ended with just one point to their name at the foot of the table; third-placed Georgia, by contrast, managed a creditable ten.
