Italy are in a commanding position at the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 7 after two second-half goals from Mattia Destro accounted for Turkey.

Destro, who scored when the Azzurrini triumphed by the same score in the reverse fixture last month, struck on 49 and 90 minutes. The hosts were down to ten men by the time the AC Siena striker doubled his tally, Sefa Yilmaz having been shown a straight red card with a little over a quarter of an hour remaining.

The result not only maintains Italy's perfect record in the section − they have won all four of their matches − but makes them overwhelming favourites to top the group. Ciro Ferrara's side are level on points with second-placed Turkey but, significantly, have played two games less.
