Struggling Inter let Gasperini go

Gian Piero Gasperini has been dismissed by FC Internazionale Milano three months on from his appointment after Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Novara Calcio continued their winless start.

FC Internazionale Milano have ended coach Gian Piero Gasperini's three-month spell at the helm in the wake of Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat at Novara Calcio.

After losing the Italian Super Cup against city rivals AC Milan in August, Inter have earned only one point from their first three Serie A games – their worst start in 28 years. They also went down 1-0 at home to Trabzonspor AŞ in their UEFA Champions League opener last week.

"FC Internazionale Milano announce that today's training session was directed by Daniele Bernazzani and Giuseppe Baresi," read Inter's statement. "The club thank Gian Piero Gasperini for his commitment and confirm their sadness at the termination of this working relationship."

After seven successful years in the Juventus youth system, Gasperini took over at FC Crotone in 2003, leading the southern side into Serie B during his first season. He moved to Genoa CFC in 2006, again gaining promotion in his debut campaign, steering his new team up to Serie A and then to UEFA Europa League qualification.

Having left Genoa early last term, Gasperini, 53, signed a two-year contract with Inter in June to become the Nerazzurri's third coach since José Mourinho's departure in 2010, following on from Rafael Benítez and Leonardo. Inter will visit Bologna FC in Serie A on Saturday before their trip to PFC CSKA Moskva in UEFA Champions League Group B next Tuesday.
