City tie down Johnson and Zabaleta

Manchester City FC had some good news ahead of their potentially decisive matchday five meeting with SSC Napoli after Adam Johnson and Pablo Zabaleta signed new long-term deals.

Manchester City FC pair Adam Johnson and Pablo Zabaleta have signed new long-term contracts at the club.

England winger Johnson has agreed a new four-year deal, while Argentina full-back Zabaleta has extended his stay until 2015. Johnson, 24, joined City from Middlesbrough FC in January 2010 and has gone on to make 53 Premier League appearances for Roberto Mancini's side. "I'm delighted to sign, I'm just glad it's all sorted out," he said, after committing until 2016.

"I want to become a top player, I want to keep winning things and picking up medals," Johnson, who has also played in three UEFA Champions League games this term, added. "This is such an exciting time to be at the club. It's great being part of it. My game's improved, I'm playing for England and in the Champions League, that probably wouldn't have happened if I hadn't come here."

Zabaleta has been at the City of Manchester Stadium since his 2008 arrival from RCD Espanyol. His previous deal was due to expire next year and the versatile 26-year-old said: "I'm in a very good team, and I try to do my best for the club, the team and the fans. I didn't think twice, I gave a quick answer because I was so happy to sign." City travel to SSC Napoli on Tuesday for their matchday five fixture sitting two points ahead of the Italian side in Group A.
