Rubin swoop for Iranian goalkeeper Haghighi

FC Rubin Kazan have signed goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi from Persepolis FC after the Iranian international put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the UEFA Europa League hopefuls.

FC Rubin Kazan have completed the signing on a four-year deal of promising Iranian international goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi from Persepolis FC.

The Tehran-born 23-year-old, who has spent the entirety of his fledgling career with Persepolis, has already joined up with the Russian Premier League outfit at their winter training camp in Turkey. Haghighi is one of Iran's rising young talents, having made 73 top-flight appearances for the side he helped win the domestic title in 2008 and having broken into Iran's senior national team in October.

Rubin lie in fifth place in the Russian standings, ten points adrift of leaders FC Zenit St Petersburg, and finished runners-up in UEFA Europa League Group A. Kurban Berdyev's charges host Olympiacos FC on 16 February in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie, with the return a week later in Piraeus.
