Legia's Gol rues Sporting equaliser

Legia Warszawa goalscorer Janusz Gol rued his side's late lapse in concentration which allowed Sporting Clube de Portugal to snatch a crucial equaliser for a 2-2 first-leg draw.

Legia Warszawa goalscorer Janusz Gol said his side paid the price for their late lapse in concentration in the 2-2 UEFA Europa League round of 32 first-leg draw at home to Sporting Clube de Portugal, leaving Emiliano Insúa and Bruno Pereirinha confident their side can finish the job in Lisbon next week.

You should always be very careful until the last second and unfortunately we were not. Two-all is not a result we dreamt about but on the other hand we did not lose and this is the most important thing. I am satisfied that I scored and I did the same in Moscow [against FC Spartak Moskva in the play-offs] and that goal meant we qualified. Let's hope we can do the same against Sporting. We go to Lisbon looking to win and progress.

Michał Żewłakow, Legia defender
It is a pity as we had big chance to win this game. It would have given us a cushion ahead of the second leg. Unfortunately, we conceded second goal and only drew 2-2 but our belief is not lost. We were in exactly the same position after first game against Spartak and managed to overcome them. Why can't we do the same against Sporting? It was our first game after winter break. Sporting did not create many chances, but we let them score twice.

Emiliano Insúa, Sporting defender
The match was very difficult for us. Conditions were not easy, it was cold and the pitch was not the best. We are not used to playing in such conditions. Legia are a strong, aggressive team but we got the result we wanted. We scored twice away from home and it means a lot. We watched some videos before the game so we knew more or less what to expect from Legia. That is why I cannot say they surprised us with anything. We were prepared for this game but we were not able to play our style of football.

Bruno Pereirinha, Sporting midfielder
We conceded a second goal late in the match but managed to respond in the final minutes. All things considered this result is good for us and we are satisfied. Legia have a very good team, they fought. I would not say it is 50-50 after this match as the two goals mean we are favourites. It was not our intention to draw here as we wanted to win the game but I am sure we will win the second leg.
