Unexpectedly handed a first cap by Czech Republic coach Michal Bílek for the decisive UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Scotland at Hampden Park, Jan Laštůvka is currently the number one goalkeeper for Ukrainian club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

• Left second-tier MFK Karviná for FC Baník Ostrava in 2000 and became the Moravian-Silesian club's first-choice goalkeeper the following season.

• Voted the Czech Republic's young player of the year in 2003, he justified the acclaim the following season by starting all 30 matches – and conceding just 25 goals – as Baník won the 1. Liga title.

• Left for FC Shakhtar Donetsk and won the Ukrainian Premier League in each of his two seasons, making 37 starts in total; also made his European debut in the third qualifying round of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League, against Club Brugge KV, and went on to start all six group stage encounters.

• Left Shakhtar for Fulham FC in 2006 but made only a handful of appearances for the west London club before replacing compatriot Jaroslav Drobný at VfL Bochum 1848 and making 25 Bundesliga outings for the Ruhr outfit.

• Returned to London to join West Ham United FC but made just one appearance before signing up with Dnipro and helping the club finish fourth in each of his first two seasons; fine form in Ukraine earned him a first call-up for the Czech Republic in May 2010 and a first cap, away to Scotland, 16 months later in place of the injured Petr Čech.
