Spanish trio lead quarter-final draw lineup

Athletic Club, Valencia CF, Club Atlético de Madrid, AZ Alkmaar, Sporting Clube de Portgual, FC Metalist Kharkiv, FC Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 make up Friday's quarter-final draw hopefuls.

There will be three Spanish sides in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals after Athletic Club, Valencia CF and Club Atlético de Madrid qualified following Thursday's round of 16 second legs.

They will be joined by Sporting Clube de Portugal, AZ Alkmaar, FC Metalist Kharkiv and German pair FC Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 for the last-eight and semi-final draws, which take place from 13.00CET on Friday. The draws will be conducted by UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino and the ambassador for the Bucharest final, Miodrag Belodedici.

At this stage of the tournament, no teams are seeded and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other. The quarter-finals are played on a home-and-away basis on 29 March and 5 April, with the semi-finals on 19 and 26 April. This season's showpiece is at the National Arena, Bucharest, on Wednesday 9 May and a draw will also decide the "home" team for administrative purposes.

All the draw proceedings will be transmitted live on UEFA.com. Our live DrawCentre will also bring you all the build-up and post-draw reaction from Nyon. The UEFA Champions League draw begins 75 minutes earlier, at 11.45CET.

UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup pedigree
Atlético (2009/10), Schalke (1996/97) and Valencia (2003/04) are the only surviving previous winners of the trophy, while AZ (1980/81), Athletic (1976/77) and Sporting (2004/05) were all UEFA Cup runners-up. The two former European champions who had been in the running, PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United FC, bowed out on Thursday.
