Gerrard out for three weeks

Steven Gerrard will miss Liverpool FC's UEFA Champions League trip to Galatasaray SK next week.

Liverpool FC will be without Steven Gerrard for next week's UEFA Champions League trip to Galatasaray SK and possibly next month's game at FC Barcelona after the influential midfield player injured his groin on Wednesday.

Carried off
The 21-year-old was carried off on a stretcher during the stalemate with the Turkish side at Anfield. Gerrard was immediately ruled out of Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton FC and assistant manager Phil Thompson confirmed on Thursday that the English international will miss the next three weeks, putting his hopes of featuring at the Camp Nou in jeopardy.

'Have to be careful'
"It would have been unfair straight after the match to have made a quick decision about his fitness," Thompson said. "He has had a scan and we now do not expect him back for as long as three weeks. Because of the sort of injuries Steven has had in the past we have to be very careful with him and not take any risks. What is a shame is that he has recently rediscovered his form and is just getting better and better."

Yet to win
Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Galatasaray left Liverpool, four-time European Champion Clubs' Cup winners, bottom of Group B. They are yet to win in the second group stage, having lost at home to FC Barcelona and drawn away against AS Roma.
