England midfielder Gareth Barry has been ruled out of UEFA EURO 2012 because of the groin injury suffered in Saturday's 1-0 friendly victory against Norway.

The 31-year-old Manchester City FC midfielder entered the fray in Oslo at half-time but lasted just 28 minutes before being forced from the field. "I know how much he wanted to be part of the tournament," said England manager Roy Hodgson. "I'm sure he will still have a part to play with England after the championship. I wish him a speedy recovery." Everton FC central defender Phil Jagielka will replace Barry in the 23-man squad.

The England party, minus Barry, who has 53 caps to his name, will resume training tomorrow ahead of their final UEFA EURO 2012 warm-up game against Belgium on 2 June. England begin their Group D campaign against France in Donetsk on 11 June.
