• Born in Bristol, he joined Birmingham City FC as a schoolboy and signed his first professional contract on turning 17 in March 2010.

• Moved up to U19 and then U21 level, sandwiched by an outstanding appearance at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia, where he conceded just once in four games.

• Named on Roy Hodgson's standby list for UEFA EURO 2012, he was summoned to the full squad after Ruddy broke a finger in training.

• Signed for Stoke City in January 2013 but kept out of the team by Asmir Begović. Enjoyed loan spells at Birmingham, Barnsley and Leeds.
