Jack Butland

Birmingham City FC

A member of the England side that won the 2010 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, defeating Spain in the final, Jack Butland has established himself at U21 level and received a shock call-up to the senior team's UEFA EURO 2012 squad as a replacement for the injured John Ruddy.

• Born in Bristol, he joined Birmingham City FC as a schoolboy and signed his first professional contract on turning 17 in March 2010.

• Started his international career at U16 level, in October 2008, before graduating to the U17s and keeping goal in the last three matches of England's 2010 European title triumph in Liechtenstein.

• Moved up to U19 and then U21 level, sandwiched by an outstanding appearance at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia, where he conceded just once in four games.

• Unable to claim a first-team place at Birmingham, he was sent on loan to fourth-tier Cheltenham Town FC in September 2011 and had a further loan spell there the following spring, making 24 league appearances in all for the club and conceding 26 goals.

• Named on Roy Hodgson's standby list for UEFA EURO 2012, he was summoned to the full squad after Ruddy broke a finger in training.
