One of Greek football's most treasured youngsters, Kostas Fortounis could well 'cost a fortune' on the international transfer market if he realises his potential at UEFA EURO 2012. A gifted attacking midfielder/winger, he suffered relegation from the German Bundesliga in 2011/12 but has the ability to succeed at the highest level.
• Born in the central Greek town of Trikala, he was affiliated to Piraeus giants Olympiacos FC as a youth but began his senior career back home at lower-league club Trikala FC.
• Caught the eye for Greece's Under-17 team and was signed by Super league outfit Asteras Tripolis FC in 2010.
• Used predominantly as a substitute, the teenager clocked up 24 league appearances, scoring his first Super League goal on 19 September 2010 in a 2-2 draw at AEK Athens FC; unable, however, to save the side from relegation.
• Played for Greece at the 2011 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Romania, scoring the only goal of the game against the hosts and impressing sufficiently to earn a four-year contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
• Racked up 28 league appearances for Kaiserslautern but endured a second successive relegation; despite that he won a place in Greece's UEFA EURO 2012 squad having made his senior international debut four months before the finals in a home friendly against Belgium.
