There are just two quarter-final places remaining to be filled on the final night of group action on Tuesday when France, England and Ukraine will bid to follow the Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Italy into the last eight. UEFA.com explains what each of the three Group D hopefuls must do to make the knockout phase.

The permutations below are for information only; the official calculations will be made by UEFA after the games finish according to article 8.07 & 8.08 of the Regulations of the UEFA European Championship, 2010–12 competition.*

Group D: Tuesday

Sweden (0) v France (4), England (4) v Ukraine (3)

England will be through with a draw. If they lose, they have to hope France lose by enough so that England at least end level with Les Bleus on goal difference and goals scored (as England have a superior coefficient, 33.563 to France's 30.508).

Ukraine will be through with a win and out with any other result.

France will be through with a draw. If they lose, they would only be out if England lose but at the same time move level with them on either goal difference or goals scored.

Sweden are out.

Paragraph 08.07 of the UEFA European Football Championship 2010-12 regulations now reads as follows, with a new clause d) shown in bold.

"If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

a) Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;

b) Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;

c) Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;

d) If, after having applied criteria a) to c), two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a) to c) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria e) to i) apply in the order given;

e) superior goal difference in all group matches;

f) higher number of goals scored in all group matches;

**g) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see annex I, paragraph 1.2.2);
