Andriy Shevchenko (Ukraine 2-1 Sweden)
Ukraine were behind for only three minutes before their talisman showed that he has lost none of his predatory instinct. His movement was superb and the header emphatic. Cue delirium.
Jakub Błaszczykowski (Poland 1-1 Russia)
Poland broke quickly down the right and Jakub Błaszczykowski cut inside Yuri Zhirkov, level with the edge of the area, and unleashed a fiercely struck shot with his left boot which found the top left-hand corner.
Danny Welbeck (Sweden 2-3 England)
Substitute Theo Walcott surged past a pair of Sweden defenders into the penalty area and centred low for Danny Welbeck, who got across the front of his man and guided the ball into the net with a sublime back-heel on the turn.
Rafael van der Vaart (Portugal 2-1 Netherlands)
The Dutch got off to the perfect start when Arjen Robben found Rafael van der Vaart and the Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder curled a delighful effort past Rui Patrício from the edge of the penatly area.
Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden 2-0 France)
Sebastian Larsson crossed for Zlatan Ibrahimović, who twisted superbly to dispatch a flying volley past Hugo Lloris from the edge of the area.
Sami Khedira (Germany 4-2 Greece)
The Real Madrid CF midfielder timed his run perfectly to meet Jérôme Boateng's cross on the volley and smash the ball past Michalis Sifakis to restore Germany's advantage.
Mario Balotelli (Germany 1-2 Italy)
Riccardo Montolivo looked for Balotelli following a Germany corner, his ball over the top evading Philipp Lahm. The striker sped away from his pursuers to rifle a shot into the top corner for a finish that was as emphatic as his first of the match.
Jordi Alba (Spain 4-0 Italy)
Jordi Alba made a surging run from his full-back position and was expertly found by Xavi Hernández before finishing past Gianluigi Buffon with ease.
