Lúcio swaps Inter for Juventus

Juventus have signed former Brazil centre-back Lúcio on a free transfer from Serie A rivals FC Internazionale Milano, handing the experienced defender a two-year contract.

Italian champions Juventus have announced the signing of veteran Brazilian centre-back Lúcio on a free transfer from Serie A rivals FC Internazionale Milano.

Lúcio, 34, has signed a two-year deal at Juve. He is the latest in a host of arrivals at the club since they won the Scudetto, with Sebastian Giovinco returning to Turin from Parma FC, young goalkeeper Nicola Leali joining from Brescia Calcio and Udinese Calcio duo Mauricio Isla and Kwadwo Asamoah completing their moves to the Bianconeri yesterday.

Lúcio brings a wealth of experience to a defensive line which conceded only 20 league goals last term. A FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002, he has played at Inter for the last three seasons, and was a key member of the treble-winning side of 2010. He had previously played for eight seasons in the Bundesliga winning the German double three times with FC Bayern München and reaching the 2002 UEFA Champions League final with Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Juventus will start their 2012/13 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
