Inzaghi appointed Milan youth coach

Former Italian international striker Filippo Inzaghi, 38, has called time on his 21-year playing career in order to take up a role as coach of AC Milan's Allievi Nazionali youth side.

Filippo Inzaghi has called time on a playing career which spanned more than two decades in order to take up a coaching role with AC Milan.

Inzaghi spent 11 seasons at Milan, where his contract expired this summer. The club announced on Tuesday that the former Italy striker, who scored 73 goals in 202 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri, is to take over the Allievi Nazionali youth side, who play in the Italian Under-16 league.

Inzaghi found the net 58 times in 120 league games for Juventus prior to his move to Milan, and counts Atalanta BC and Parma FC among his former employers. He rounded off his career in fitting fashion, scoring the winner in a 2-1 triumph over Novara Calcio in his final competitive fixture. The predatory striker is behind only Raúl González in the all-time UEFA club competition scoring charts.

Inzaghi, 38, was capped 57 times by the Azzurri and was a member of the squad which lifted the 2006 FIFA World Cup. A three-time Scudetto winner, he scored both goals for Milan in their 2007 UEFA Champions League final victory against Liverpool FC, his second European title with the San Siro outfit.
