Zapata back in Serie A with Milan

Former Udinese Calcio defender Cristián Zapata is back in Italy 12 months after leaving for Spain, joining AC Milan on a season-long loan deal from relegated Liga club Villarreal CF.

AC Milan have announced the signing of Colombia defender Cristián Zapata on a season-long loan from Villarreal CF.

The Rossoneri have the option to make the deal for the 25-year-old, who has represented his country 15 times, permanent next summer. Zapata is well versed in the rigours of Serie A football having played 168 times for Udinese Calcio between 2005 and 2011.

He joined Villarreal last summer but suffered the disappointment of relegation in his first season at El Madrigal. The former Asociación Deportivo Cali centre-back will strengthen a defensive line which lost Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain FC last month.

Milan enter the UEFA Champions League at the group stage after finishing second in Serie A last term.
