Chelsea's Meireles makes Fenerbahçe move

The Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles, a member of the Chelsea FC squad crowned European champions last season, has signed for Fenerbahçe SK on a four-year contract.

Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles has joined Fenerbahçe SK from Chelsea FC on a four-year deal.

The 29-year-old leaves the European champions in a transfer reportedly worth €10m, departing England after barely 12 months at Stamford Bridge where he arrived from Liverpool FC on transfer deadline day at the start of last season. He featured regularly for Chelsea and helped propel the west London club to the UEFA Champions League final, which he missed through suspension.

Meireles did, however, play as a second-half substitute in May's FA Cup final when Chelsea beat his former team Liverpool – one of his 45 appearances last term. He becomes Fenerbahçe's third summer signing from England following Joseph Yobo and Dirk Kuyt, from Everton FC and Liverpool respectively.
