Bayern game raises LOSC horizons

"We dream of playing games like this," said Rudi Garcia ahead of LOSC Lille's Group F meeting with FC Bayern München, whose coach Jupp Heynckes knows league tables can lie.

Rudi Garcia said that LOSC Lille's Group F encounter with FC Bayern München was "David against Goliath" but he is delighted to have the opportunity to create a bit of magic in the UEFA Champions League. As for Jupp Heynckes, he hopes that his German titleholders can rise to the occasion after a 3-1 loss at FC BATE Borisov on matchday two.

LOSC
Coach Rudi Garcia

We are playing one of the biggest sides in Europe so we will have to give it 120% and Bayern will have to have an off day if we want to get a positive result. It is David against Goliath. The most important thing for us is to believe we can do it. The only star in our club is our team. Frank Ribéry is a tremendous player, but he is not the only one Bayern have – it will be hard to defend against [Thomas] Müller, [Toni] Kroos, etc, as well. We will have to try to prevent Ribéry from getting the ball, but there will be no 'anti-Ribéry' plan.

We lost both of our previous games in the group so we are in difficult position and we have to get points from this game. We are getting more and more confident with a late goal against Bordeaux and two goals against Ajaccio in a game where we did not have a lot of chances [but won 2-0]. We will have 50,000 at the stadium and the whole of France watching us on TV. We dream of playing games like this and we have to do our best.

Weekend result
Friday: FC Girondins de Bordeaux 1-1 LOSC (Obraniak 18; Baša 90+3)

Landreau; Béria, Baša, Chedjou, Debuchy; Balmont, Pedretti, Martin (Klonaridis 75); Payet (De Melo 66), Kalou (Mendes 60), Roux.

• Former LOSC player Ludovic Obraniak opened the scoring, but the visitors secured a late point. They have secured just two wins in their opening nine Ligue 1 fixtures of the season.

Team news
Marvin Martin returned from an adductor injury at the weekend, but Marko Baša fractured his nose in scoring LOSC's late equaliser and is rated as doubtful having since undergone surgery. Idrissa Gueye (ankle) and Rio Mavuba (knee) are definitely out while Mathieu Debuchy serves a suspension.

Bayern
Coach Jupp Heynckes
The Champions League is the most prestigious competition in football and we are going to give everything for a victory tomorrow. When I look at our statistics I can see that we play well when we need to, and we win and get good results when we have to, even against big teams like Villarreal, Manchester City or Real Madrid.

Our scouts went to watch LOSC's weekend game against Bordeaux, and I saw it on television. LOSC are one of the best teams in France, regardless of the league table. They are well organised and have a good structure. We are going to give everything we have and I am happy to have a number of experienced players. Yes, Franck Ribéry played well for France against Spain at the Vicente Calderón stadium last week. That is very good for him.

Weekend result
Saturday: Fortuna Düsseldorf 1895 0-5 Bayern (Mandžukić 28, Luiz Gustavo 36, Müller 55 86, Rafinha 87)

Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Badstuber; Schweinsteiger (Rafinha 82), Luiz Gustavo; Müller, Kroos (Javi Martínez 70), Ribéry; Mandžukić (Alaba 77).

• Heynckes picked up his 300th Bundesliga win as a coach as Bayern became the first club in the German top flight's history to win their opening eight games of the season. Rafinha rounded off the scoring with his first league goal for the club.

Team news
David Alaba, who broke a foot in pre-season, made his first Bayern appearance of the season on Saturday. Arjen Robben has not featured since 25 September because of muscle problems, and is the only player rated as unlikely. Lukas Raeder (knee), Mario Gomez (ankle) and Diego Contento (foot) are yet to play this term.

Match fact
LOSC have lost their last two fixtures against Bundesliga sides and have won just one of five matches against German opposition overall. Bayern emerged victorious on their last two trips to France and won their last four against Ligue 1 sides, scoring eight goals without reply.
