Bould hails 'fantastic result' for Arsenal

Assistant manager Steve Bould was relieved to see Arsenal FC shake off early nerves to secure a "fantastic result" against Olympiacos FC, whose coach Leonardo Jardim was not too down.

Steve Bould, Arsenal assistant manager
It was tough. They made it really tough for us and defended really well. We started not too badly, but then looked nervous. Overall, though, it was a fantastic result. It's always [the result] isn't it? It's a results industry, we ground it out and got that.

They are technically a very sound side, we knew that before the match and we found it out in the first half. I don't think they had too many chances, we limited them and could perhaps have score a few more, without being fantastic. We changed things around a bit at half-time and that helped us to control possession. It's early days and there are a lot of quality teams but we are in a good position in the group.

Good players can play anywhere and Gervinho is one of those – whether it's right wing, left wing or centre forward. He's scoring goals and his confidence is sky high. I think his link play is gradually improving, and he's a danger with his pace and movement. There is a lot more to come from him; he could be a top player.

Leonardo Jardim, Olympiacos coach
UEFA Champions League matches are totally different to Greek league games. In Greece we are in control of the encounters and our rivals usually defend in numbers. In Europe, everything is different – especially the pace. Today we were better than Arsenal in the first half. We created three clear chances and should have finished better. This is the Olympiacos we like to watch.

In the second half, we maintained our good organisation and the players showed the right attitude, despite Arsenal gaining ground. However, the most important is to get the result – and we failed there. Our main objective is to go through to the next stage of the Champions League. There are still another four games remaining so of course we will keep on going. If we do not qualify then obviously we want to compete in the Europa League.
