Van den Brom: 'Málaga hot, Anderlecht not'

RSC Anderlecht boss John van den Brom admitted "Málaga were top and we certainly were not" after the Spanish newcomers continued their stunning start to the group stage.

John van den Brom, Anderlecht coach
Welcome to the footballing elite. We can conclude from tonight that we are still far, far away from joining it. We lost without a creating chance – it is a pity we could not show more to our home fans. The respect I already had for Málaga has only increased after that. You have to be really at the top of your game to do something against such a fantastic side and Málaga were top; we certainly were not.

Six points from six is significant but it's not definitive because as quickly as you accumulate points in a group, you can drop them too
Manuel Pellegrini

The good feeling we had is now gone for a while, but actually I am glad that on Sunday we will have a nice match at Standard de Liège. It makes it easier for the players to revitalise themselves.

Manuel Pellegrini, Málaga coach
We've played two very important games in the group now but qualification is not assured. Six points from six is significant but it's not definitive because as quickly as you accumulate points in a group, you can drop them too.

We maintained a good approach tonight. We were solid and committed very few errors. We were at quite a high level as a team, playing collectively as opposed to individually. [What we have achieved up until now] is not a miracle; it's based on hard work, compromise and is helped by the unity of our supporters. We still have difficult games to come.
