Viktor Goncharenko, BATE coach
We made a huge number of mistakes in midfield and at this level you always pay for that. Our opponents studied us really well, they forced us into errors. How will this loss affect us? We must seek to re-establish ourselves. We're capable of doing that and have done so previously. In fact, it'll be really interesting to see how we do in Valencia. Of course, we hoped for a better result tonight and we had a great crowd that was expecting a lot of us. We made too many mistakes in the middle of the park. Soldado makes use of such chances.

Mauricio Pellegrino, Valencia coach
This was an important victory, above all for the team's credibility as we went into the match on the back of a bad run away from home. It was also an important result because it means there are now three teams on six points, leaving the section wide open. We are in a good position with a home game [against BATE] to come. My team can still improve a lot. We knew that BATE's strength lay in their counterattacking game and we thought that gaining a draw here would be satisfactory.

However, after our [first] goal we controlled the ball well and we played as our opponents normally like to when they look to find space. It's not only winning that gives you confidence, it comes from being as compact a unit as we were tonight. More important than the goals was the fact that the team created chances. Today three went in for us, whereas on other days you won't get one. I hope this result well serve to strengthen us; we must look to kick on from here.
