Dominant throughout, FC Girondins de Bordeaux strode to a 4-0 success against Club Brugge KV to take an early grip on UEFA Europa League Group D.
Unbeaten in nine European home games prior to kick-off, Bordeaux quickly set about extending that record when Ludovic Sané broke Club Brugge's resistance after 13 minutes. Yoan Gouffran doubled their lead, before Bjorn Engels's second-half own goal and Jussiê's perfectly placed header on 66 minutes set the seal on a resounding victory.
The Ligue 1 side started with vibrancy and intent and could have been in front inside three minutes had Jaroslav Plašil's left-footed finish matched his excellent drag-back. Bordeaux were relentless and Plašil led the charge moments later, crossing for Cheick Diabaté, whose thunderous header was somehow repelled at point-blank range by visiting goalkeeper Bojan Jorgačević.
Undeterred, Francis Gillot's charges continued to probe and ended their opponents' resolve when Sané capitalised on a goalmouth scramble by steering in from close range. Their technical proficiency made the difference again on 27 minutes, Diabaté splitting the visitors' massed ranks before teeing up Gouffran to slot into an empty net.
The pattern of play seldom changed after the break and Club Brugge's task became even more arduous two minutes in. Benoît Trémoulinas was the catalyst, buccaneering down the left flank before his sweeping centre was inadvertently turned in by young Club Brugge defender Engels. Not content with their lot, Jussiê made it four, meeting Mariano's centre and planting a precise header beyond Jorgačević.
